Good concept, weakly expanded upon. HOw about examples to support how greed was the downfall. THe saying- Pigs get slaughtered is accurate , this is an important issue, but that article alone is hollow.

dogball,

Your criticism is a valid one. I will make a point to give it more meat with a follow up to this one...

I can use several examples of me alone when I was younger and foolish...

I have to say SHRINK, while I seldom read articles, I think your hit the nail on the head. One of the weaknesses of not being experienced is our inability to distinguish our needs from our greed. I have worked with many established BM's and I can say that about the only thing that distiguished the successfull guys from the the failures were their ego's followed by their greed. While there may be no one correct way to book successfully, the two absolute common denominators of all the failures taht I have seen are ego and greed.(Not counting in the guys that just open on balls or w/ the intention to rob or take a shot.) You can learn alot more about how to be successful by watching the reasons for others failures. Simply because some successfull guys just have that horseshoe up their ass and are sharp as a marble. Or the guys betting into them can't spell Don Best. Can't learn anything from those kind. Anyway, enjoyable article and very accurate in my opinion.

Greed: excessive or reprehensible acquisitiveness.

Reprehensible: worthy of or deserving.

Acquisitiveness: strongly desirous of acquiring and possessing.

In short, greed is merely a strong or excessive desire to obtain or acquire. Not exactly, an undesirable trait for one seeking success. Thus, I disagree with the notion that one possessing the trait of greed is doomed to failure.

I am of the opinion that DISCIPLINE or rather lack there of, is the most common cause of failure.

Discipline: control gained by enforcing obedience or order.

Failure is the result of those lacking the trait of discipline (control) not greed. Example, greed is not the reason dropouts fail to complete school…lack of discipline most likely is.

Those possessing excessive or reprehensible discipline are also likely to succeed in their endeavors as opposed to those who do not.

More specifically, I am of the opinion that some of the methods currently utilized by bookmakers and gamblers do not achieve the desired objective, and that is, controlling, minimizing and/or eliminating monetary risk.

Thus, the “reason” bookmakers and/or gamblers go broke is the result of their lack of discipline as seen by their “inability to control monetary risk” while utilizing methods which do not assure them the profits of success.

Spive - I agree with you 100%. I think discipline is the key.

I learned a long time ago, it's not what you know that will hurt you, it's what you don't know that will kill you.

Most people don't understand money management and, therefore; practice strategies that lead to their failure.

Couldnt disagree more
Greed breeds success in top-notch gamblers. They would have never reached the pillar of their professions without out. GREED can be GOOD!

Much bigger destroyer of gamblers---WOMEN, WOMEN, AND MORE WOMEN.

SHRINK - You were RIGHT ON with this article.

The number one hindrance for all gamblers and bookies is E-G-O

Gamblers and bookies need to overcome and ignore their EGOs...when they can't it leads to GREED and greed leads to blindness of reality of checks and balances...and then that's when the sh*t hits the fan and everything is GONE.

EGO + GREED = Failure

Greedy gamblers go broke. Greedy bookies don't always go broke. Some bookies claim they go broke, but In reality they close up the shop and rip off gamblers for major amounts of money.
